July has been a month to remember; and it all started with Canada Day and the terrific evening celebrating our 35th Anniversary on July 4th.

With the early season construction our event calendar was back loaded this year, just the opposite of 2025 where we hosted virtually every event before the construction began.

As a result, in July we also held the following events;

  • the Ladies Member Guest – won by Cate Woodward, Jeannie Von Buttlar & Andrea White, Heather Janzen
  • our Senior Club Championships – won by Sharon Delorenzi and Peter Greenhough
  • the Parent/Child – won by Olivia and Greg Kelk and Alexandra and Morgan Rubes
  • a 9-Hole Divorce Open – won by Gail and Doug Todgham
  • we welcomed the Ladies from Osler Brooke for Interclub
  • the Men’s Member Guest – won by Ryan Sly and his guest Tomas Sample
  • and today we are holding our Ladies Member/Member to complete the month

During all this we wrapped up the irrigation project, opened #6 and #17 greens and launched our new visual brand.

A week ago, the Mad River ladies welcomed 12 players from Oslerbrook for a friendly match on a picture-perfect day. The visitors arrived early, and in hindsight, that may have been their secret weapon! After checking in, they wasted no time warming up on the driving range and putting green. Following a quick break for lunch, they headed back out for one more practice session before taking on our newly renovated course with enthusiasm. Fortunately for them, they also played extremely well, finishing with 11.5 points to our 6.5. By the end of the day, we were all asking, "Whose course is this anyway?" Despite the score, we can proudly say we were exceptional hosts. Stephen prepared a delicious meal that had everyone singing its praises. Sandy's welcoming poster in the clubhouse was a lovely touch and much appreciated by our guests. Michelle had every detail organized perfectly, making the day run without a hitch. And Shawn? As always, he was a hit with everyone. It's safe to say the Oslerbrook ladies still miss him, but we were happy to share him for the day!

Our annual Men’s Member-Guest was played last Friday with perfect weather greeting 52 members and their guests for a day of golf and fellowship at Mad.  Chad, Rob and the Grounds team had the course in fantastic condition.  Carl, Shawn and the ProShop / Back Shop teams had all the details covered off.  And of course, Michelle, Chef Stephen and the Food & Beverage team looked after us all day long.  Thank you to all of the above for making the day such an amazing experience from start to finish!  The competition was great, with four teams tied for second place.  A shootout was required to determine the second and third place teams.  I guess 27 holes wasn’t enough for these guys.  Congrats to Ryan Sly and his guest Tomas Sample who avoided the shootout and were victorious on the day!

Two marquee events are coming up fast.  First, the Mad & Noisy takes place on August 6th.  Format is the same as the member guest with three 9 hole competitions over one day.  Sign up with your partner at the following link www.golfgenius.com/ggid/gu62af.  And then a little later in August is our annual Club Championship which is contested over multiple flights, with different tees and formats, on August 15th and 16th.  Sign up is open and can be accessed through the website.  Why not join your fellow members for two days of fun and competition?

A Busy Few Weeks... and a Team That Continues to Deliver

While the MAD Post arrives in your inbox each week, it has been a little while since I have had the opportunity to write one myself. Looking back over the past few weeks, I cannot help but reflect on what an incredible stretch it has been. From our Ladies' and Men's Member-Guest tournaments, special events, and everyday dining, the clubhouse has been filled with energy, and it has been incredibly rewarding to see so many members enjoying the experience.

One of the greatest compliments we continue to receive is about the overall Mad experience. It has been incredibly rewarding to hear members speak so highly of the friendliness of our Food & Beverage team, the welcoming atmosphere throughout the clubhouse, and the exceptional food created by Chef Stephen and the culinary team. Those compliments have extended well beyond the clubhouse, with members and guests alike commenting on how beautiful the golf course looks following construction and how much they have enjoyed the playing conditions. Chad and the Grounds team have done an outstanding job bringing the course to life this season, and it is wonderful to hear their hard work being recognized alongside the efforts of every department.

From the Grill

I'd like to extend a warm thank you to the ladies from OslerBrook Golf & Country Club for joining us for this year's Interclub Tournament. It was a pleasure to welcome everyone to Mad River.

One of the dinner favourites was a simple yet elegant salad featuring Lollo Rosso, pomegranate seeds, toasted walnuts, and a bright tarragon vinaigrette. So simple.

Lollo Rosso is an Italian heirloom lettuce easily recognized by its deeply ruffled leaves and beautiful burgundy-red edges that fade to vibrant green near the base. Beyond adding striking colour to the plate, it offers a delicate texture with a pleasantly mild bitterness that balances sweet fruits, toasted nuts, and tangy vinaigrettes. It's one of my favourite greens because it brings both visual appeal and complexity without overpowering the other ingredients. Try it today!
