Project update

The irrigation team did finish up on #12 last week and are now working on #1, which they expect to complete by Friday afternoon. This is another critical marker for us, it means the installation work on the golf course is finished, and all 18 holes will be back in plan starting on June 20th.

Both washrooms and water dispensers are open and in service. We plan to install benches, paint the doors and install new signs this week. The washrooms will remain open through these final few finishing touches.

Return to Play on #6 and #17

The next important target for us is getting #6 and #17 greens back into play. We are having root testing on both greens completed this week and the results of those tests, principally the depth and health of the roots, will provide further guidance for our decision making.

Based in industry data for new green grow-ins, from our seeding date to opening we had targeted the end of June to open both greens. The cool spring which limited early season turf growth did have Chad concerned. What we don’t want is to open the greens too early, experience turf setbacks and then have to close them again. I’ll update you further once we have the results of the tests.

By the time this week’s Mad Post lands in your inbox, a group of members and I will be on our way to Northwest Ireland for this year’s golf trip.

One of the great benefits of a club like Mad is the friendships that are built through the game of golf, and club trips like this provide a great opportunity to strengthen those connections. While we are fortunate to play a fantastic golf course at home every day, there is something special about travelling together, experiencing new destinations, and sharing rounds on some of the world’s best golf courses.

Northwest Ireland is home to some of the finest links golf anywhere, with dramatic coastlines, stunning scenery, and challenging layouts. While the golf itself will be memorable, it is often the experiences shared off the course that become the highlights of the trip. A special thank you to Bob Cook for all his efforts in helping coordinate this trip, and many others in the past. Bob has dedicated countless hours researching destinations and coordinating logistics with our tour operator. Without Bob’s enthusiasm and passion for member travel, many of these opportunities simply may not have happened. On behalf of everyone who has participated, thank you Bob for all that you do!

Ladies Friday Mornings & Why You Struggle to Take it to the Course From the Range

If you haven't been coming Friday mornings, here's a taste of what you're missing.

The Ladies' program has been building week by week all season — and the best part is that nothing we cover ever disappears. Every clinic gets written up and kept in one place, so whether you've made every Friday or none of them yet, you can see exactly what the group has been working on.
Here's the run so far:
  • Week 01 — The Grip. The only thing actually touching the club. Three checkpoints, and finding the grip pressure that's yours.
  • Week 02 — The Setup. Most of the shot is decided before you move — posture, ball position, alignment, built the same way every time.
  • Week 03 — The Rotation. The swing isn't your arms, it's your turn. Coil, uncoil, finish tall.
  • Week 04 — The Short Game. A simple chipping setup and the land-it-and-let-it-run method that saves real scores.
  • Week 05 — The Putting. A still setup, a quiet pendulum stroke, and the speed that ends three-putts.
It's all on one page, and more gets added every week.  Find each week HERE
Come for one, come for all of them. The work builds, and so does the group.

Sip Your Way Through Summer

Now that summer has finally arrived, there is no better place to relax after your round than on the patio with friends and a refreshing beverage in hand.

For members looking for lighter alcoholic options, Triple Bogey Fairway Fizz offers refreshing vodka sodas in Citrus, Berry, and Tropical flavours, while Muskoka Brewery's Rally Ultra Light Lager delivers great flavour with fewer calories and carbohydrates than many traditional beers. And if you're enjoying a Triple Bogey, let's hope it's the only one you see all day.

Our alcohol-free selection continues to grow as well. Beer lovers can enjoy favourites such as Muskoka's Veer IPA and Peroni 0.0%, while wine enthusiasts can explore Oddbird's premium collection of sparkling, rosé, white, and red wines. Maybe alcohol isn't your thing, or perhaps you're simply looking for a refreshing summer beverage. Yuzu Lime Fizz featuring Fever-Tree and our Raspberry Lemonade offer bright, refreshing alternatives perfect for a warm summer afternoon.

Whether you're choosing a lighter beer, a lower-calorie cocktail, an alcohol-free wine, or your favourite summer beverage, there are more options than ever to enjoy a drink that fits your lifestyle. Not sure where to start? Ask a member of the Food & Beverage team about the many beverage options available this season. The best choice is the one that works for you.

Notes from the Chef Stephen Sagar

From the Grill

Thank you to everyone who came out for the Mexican inspired dinner. It was a blast revisiting many recipes of my youth including the Tres Leches Cake. A truly decadent dessert that offers luxury and comfort with each bite. A few weeks ago, I mentioned the use of custard in the Chef’s repertoire of desserts but somehow I missed mentioning this classic from my childhood!

Translated as "three milks cake," this beloved Latin American dessert begins with a light sponge cake that is soaked in a mixture of evaporated milk, condensed milk, and cream. The result is a cake that is incredibly moist, rich, and surprisingly light all at the same time.

What makes Tres Leches so enduring is its versatility. The foundation is straightforward, allowing home bakers and pastry chefs alike to add their own twist while preserving the character of the dessert. Whether served with fresh berries, seasonal fruit, or simply a dollop of whipped cream, it remains a crowd-pleaser.

Like many classic recipes, its magic lies not in complexity but in balance. A simple sponge, a luxurious milk soak, and a little patience while it chills are all that's required to create something memorable.
