What a great party on Saturday, July 4th to celebrate our 35th anniversary.  For those of you who did not attend or for those of you who were at the party, but could not hear Tim Price, Past-President deliver Wil Matthews remarks, it may interest you to read them.

Thank you for joining me in spirit on this special day. I’m sorry I can’t be with you in person. Maybe it would interest you if I tell you a few stories about the beginnings of the Club.

There is much more to any success than simply having an idea. Peter Barnard, Ray Richards and I started with a blank piece of paper and optimism. Peter and I were neophytes in the golf business. Peter was an accomplished tennis player who had hardly ever played golf and Ray knew how to maintain a course in his role as a course superintendent for Camp Borden but never had time to play! In the beginning we didn’t even know what terrain to look for and needed Bob Cupp to help us select the land the Mad was built on.

Perhaps it was foolish of the three of us to try to build a world‑class family course in the Creemore area where we lived or worked — but we did it.

A streamy hot, hot Tuesday didn’t deter 37 ladies from playing 9 or 18 holes last week and for many it was the first time they played #6 and #17 greens. Everyone is thrilled to have all holes fully open and challenging as ever!
On most Tuesdays we create team threesomes with a variety of handicap ranges but last week’s game called ‘Within Range’, was an individual game played in threesomes of similar handicaps.
Finishing 1 st in their flight- Susan Quigley, Gail Todgham, Liz Fitzhenry
Finishing 2nd in their flight – Steph Rumford, Judy Adams, Kate Fleming
Finishing 3 rd in their flight – PA, Liz Quanbury, Karen Franklin
CTP #3 Stephanie Rumford
CTP #14 Cathy Hobart
Longest Putt – Gail Todgham 6’6”

We are looking for a few more ladies to play on the Mad River team when we host the Oslerbrook ladies on Monday July 20th. Please have a look at the itinerary and come join us.

What a week it was!!  In addition to Canada Day, there was lots to celebrate, including the completion of the on-course project, opening of the new 6th and 17th greens and of course our Club’s 35 Anniversary celebration!  Despite the heat and humidity, it was a fantastic week at Mad River.  A huge thank you to everyone that made it a week to remember!

The Men’s Senior Club Championship (age 55+) is coming up quickly and will be played on July 12th and 13th.  The Championship flight will be played over both days as a medal play event.  All other flights are played using the Stableford format on July 13th.  With all 18 holes in play, this is a great opportunity to test your game against our full course with some friendly competition along the way.  Follow this link www.golfgenius.com/ggid/nt5nqu to register by July 8th, and hope to see you there!

James Stevenson went to Syracuse for the Drive, Chip and Putt local qualifier.  He managed to win overall and also won the driving and chipping portions.  He moves on to the subregional qualifier and then if successful, to the regional qualifier later this year, and if successful there, would go to Augusta in April for the finals.  Well done, James!

Throwback Tuesdays

The very first Closing Field Day at Mad River 1991.  Theme was the Roaring 20's..  Pictured here on the right at the microphone is Wil Matthews, dressed in plus fours, helping to make the inaugural event one to remember.
A heartfelt thank you to Barbara Lemaire for sharing this wonderful piece of Mad River history with us.
