Why Foam Matters: The Unsung Hero of Draft Beer                                                                                              Foam isn’t just a decorative flourish on top of your pint — it’s a critical part of the draft beer experience. While it might be tempting to chase a "no-foam" pour in pursuit of more liquid, a proper layer of foam is essential for delivering the full flavor, aroma, and texture intended by the brewer.

Foam forms when carbon dioxide (CO₂) escapes during pouring, creating bubbles stabilized by proteins and hop compounds. These bubbles rise to the top, forming a creamy layer that should last, not disappear instantly. Foam plays a vital role in aroma — a major part of how we experience flavour as it helps release and carry aromatic compounds to your nose and softens harsh bitterness and enhances overall balance.

Good foam signals proper carbonation, clean draft lines, and spotless glassware. It shows that the beer is being served as the brewer intended. Foam is more than surface-level aesthetics. It impacts aroma, taste, and the overall beer experience. Next time you are enjoying a pint, don’t dismiss that foamy crown — it’s one of the best parts of a well-poured beer.
