Golf Operations Update

5/5/2025

The trend of manufacturers offering multiple versions of their product to suit a wide range of players is consistent with the other manufacturers as well. It is like what you see in the automotive industry. Some people want a car that can get them from A to B in style so they might get a 3 series BMW. The person that also wants to get from A to B in style, just a lot faster, will upgrade to the M3. Ping has an exciting new driver, the G440; Callaway has launched the Elyte, finally Taylormade has the Qi35. These are all excellent products, however, to ensure you are maximizing their benefit to your game, it is critical that you go through a fitting. There is no charge to get fit for clubs for members at Mad. We have several fit days in May, starting with Taylormade on Saturday, May 17th. The complete list is below:
Saturday, May 17th – Taylormade
Saturday, May 24th – Ping
Sunday, May 25th – Titleist
Saturday, May 31st – Callaway

To book an appointment at any of these fitting events, please call the pro shop. If you are unable to attend one of these events, keep in mind that our professional staff, including myself, can perform a fitting at any time. We use Trackman technology to dial in the specs of your long game and SAM Puttlab to fine tune your putter. You can contact any of the professionals directly to book an appointment.

The last part of the equipment conversation is the most important and most overlooked, your golf ball. This is the only piece of equipment that you use on every single shot. Last year, Mad River hosted a Titleist Golf Ball Fitting event, you can view the event here: Titleist Ball Fitting at Mad River video. When you watch the video, you can see there is a lot that goes into deciding which ball you should play. The main performance factors include FLIGHT, SPIN and FEEL. The ProV1 celebrates its 25th anniversary, hard to believe it has been that long since any of us played a Titleist Professional. You will notice a display in the shop to commemorate this milestone. The ProV1 is the number one ball sold in our shop; however, we offer a wide range from Callaway and Taylormade. The models vary from performance characteristics, materials and price. If you are unsure which golf ball you should be playing, please engage one of the golf professionals as they would be happy to help.
