Remediation has been our focus for the last few weeks, getting seed in the ground was our primary focus. We had to give the seed time to germinate before the cold temperatures set in for the late fall season. All areas of bentgrass contamination in our rough have been seeded and is germinating nicely. It is evident that this will be a multi year process, as not all of the bent has been removed but the new Kentucky Blue is coming on strong! All of our new fine fescue areas have also been overseeded, these areas will hopefully start to germinate in the coming weeks. We have created new areas at 3 tee, 7 green, 10 bunker, 12 rough, and at our entrance road.
We will now turn our focus towards sod with damage from our contractors, haul roads and staging areas, topsoil and equipment storage beside 6 green and 17 green. This will likely take us into next season with our recovery in these areas.
In the coming weeks we will be preparing the golf course for the winter season, In addition to laying many rolls of sod over the next few weeks, some of these will include:
- Topdressing teeing grounds
- Topdressing greens
- Cleaning up leaf debris
- Verti draining greens
This time of year is the most important time to fix any ballmarks on our putting surfaces, any voids in our putting greens gives Poa an opportunity to invade.
As always, we hope to see you out on the golf course.
Respectfully,
Chad Vibert
Golf Course Superintendent
