The final of the Ladies Singles Match was played last Thursday on another beautiful late afternoon at Mad River. The finalists (Val Dyer and PA) were to play 16 holes that were open that day. They were creative by playing holes #1 and #3 again to make the 16 hole match after they learned on the 14
th hole that #16 and #17 would not reopen in time. A real see-saw match that ended all square, so a 3 hole playoff was played. Holes #1,3,4. Both Val and PA wondered how it was possible not to score better after playing the first hole three times in 4 hours! Val won the first playoff hole, PA won the second and the third. It was a tight match and an enjoyable afternoon. They made it in before the sun went down!
Two days later on Saturday, the finals of the 4 Ball Match was played with 17 holes open that day. This would be the 6
th match the competing ladies had played in this event. Charlene Wildridge and Laura Neves won the first 9 holes. They were +2 at the end of the 8th hole. Liz Fitzhenry and Susan Quigley won the 9th hole so they lost the front nine and were just -1 overall to start the back 9 (8 holes). It was neck and neck all the way. Liz and Susan won the back on the 18
th hole, and they tied overall (Nassau Scoring). Rules state they must play a 3 hole playoff! They tied the first 3 playoff holes so rules then state-Sudden Death. Already a marathon match, they tied the first sudden death hole! On the 5th hole, Liz chipped it in for par to win the hole and match for their team. Congratulations to Susan Quigley and Liz Fitzhenry as the winners of the 2025 4 Ball Match Play. They have secured the final 2 seats at the Dinner of Champions in October. The ladies said it was a great day of golf and well matched!
We have more details for our Closing Day on Tuesday Sept. 30
th. With the uncertainty of hole closures, we think it best to start at
1:30pm for the shotgun. We will play as many holes as possible, but we aren’t sure if this will be 9, 14 or somewhere in between. We will have the putting contest on the practice green and the shootout to the 9
th green following the game. Dinner to follow with the presentation of Tuesday Ladies Day awards.
The participants of the shootout CTP and Putting contest will receive an email after Sept 23
rd (last day to qualify) to confirm their participation on Sept 30
th.
