For members who signed up for match play, it is important that you understand how this will impact the strokes assigned. The 12
th hole is currently rated as the #2 stroke hole for the men, #6 for the ladies. If you are playing a match, and you are entitled to a shot against your opponent, you will not lose it simply because the hole is under construction. The stroke will simply be given on another hole.
For example, a men’s match with one player getting four shots against their opponent. On the front nine, they will get a shot on hole #4 (1 stroke index) and #9 (3 stroke index). On the back, they receive a shot on #17 (4 stroke index), and now #13 (6 stroke index).
In a ladies match, if one player is getting 6 shots from their opponent, the same applies. For the front nine, the player would get shots on hole #4 (1 stroke index), #9 (3 stroke index) and #2 (5 stroke index). On the back nine, they now get their shots on #15 (2 stroke index), #17 (4 stroke index), and #13 (8 stroke index).
The only other change to singles match play, will be that players receive 95% of their handicap. The reason for the reduction is simply because the match is being played over 17 holes, instead of a full 18.
The good news is that members will still post scores for hole #6 and #17 while playing the temp greens. The tees will be modified on both holes so the yardages will play similar. For example, if you normally play the white tees, the blocks will be moved on to the green deck. The stroke indexes for both holes will not change either. When we consulted with Golf Ontario, they advised against making this adjustment.
As the project progresses, there will be other holes closed, or modified, which will not allow for scores to be posted. It will also adjust how the remaining matches will be played. When this occurs, it will be communicated to the members as to how you proceed with posting scores. If you participate in club events, it is your responsibility as a player to be informed and up to date. If you are unsure about anything regarding the posting of scores, or playing matches, during the project, please speak with one of our golf professionals.
