Hydration with Health in Mind. What are Electrolytes and Why Do They Matter?

Electrolytes are minerals—like sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium—that help regulate your body’s most vital functions. They’re essential for hydration, muscle contractions, nerve signals, and even keeping your heartbeat steady.

When you’re golfing in extreme heat, your body loses more fluids and electrolytes through sweat. If those electrolytes aren’t replaced, it can lead to fatigue, muscle cramps, dizziness, headaches, and in more serious cases, heat exhaustion.

That’s why drinking water and replenishing electrolytes is key—especially during long rounds and on days when the sun is relentless and humidity rises. Drinks like BODYARMOR offer a healthy, low-sugar way to restore what your body needs to stay cool, steady, and energized on the course. As the Club moves towards healthier options, we have removed Gatorade products from our beverage lineup. In their place, we’re now offering BODYARMOR, a hydration drink made by Coca-Cola that better reflects our focus on wellness and performance.

BODYARMOR provides essential electrolytes to keep you hydrated on and off the course, particularly potassium, which supports muscle function and recovery. It also contains coconut water and added vitamins, and unlike Gatorade, comes in lower-sugar and low-calorie options.

This shift isn’t just happening at our club but at many other clubs and major sports organizations like the NHL and the NBA. You may have already noticed it being promoted during games or player interviews, reflecting a broader move toward health-conscious choices in professional sports.

While sports drinks can help on hot days or long rounds, don’t forget that many whole foods are naturally hydrating and electrolyte rich. Bananas, avocados, leafy greens, yogurt, and almonds are all excellent choices that support hydration and recovery.

We hope this change helps you feel at your best while enjoying the sport you adore! If there is anything else you feel we should offer at the club, please let me know at [email protected] or when we see you around the club.
