New Course Rating for 2023
A number of you gentleman have asked me about Course Rating and the new designation given to our holes. I will try my best to explain after completing some research:
I am sure by now, most of you have noticed that our scorecards look quite a bit different from last years’ card. There were a few factors that caused our Professional Staff to have the course reviewed and re-rated by the Raters from Golf Canada. Amongst the said reasons, were new tee blocks, thus change in distances and supposedly easier tee shots. Raters also review statistics from hole to hole score entries. The overall rating between the Green and White tees for instance were somewhat misleading. The disparity between the two tees was not an accurate reflection, from a degree of difficulty perspective. Last year a 9.5 to 10.2 index would have been given the player 9 shots from the greens and 8 shots from the whites. This year the same player will get 9 shots from the greens and 5 to 6 shots from the whites. So this will also explain why a higher handicap player received less shots this year, when playing from the whites. I agree that this is a more accurate rating.
A number of you have also commented on the change in the individual hole and handicap designations. Some don’t agree, however after I researched this, I copied and pasted the explanation below for a better understanding:
The No. 1 handicap hole is not necessarily the most difficult hole on a golf course. It is the hole where the higher handicap player is most likely to need a stroke for an equalizer. If a low-handicap golfer is just as likely to make bogey as a high-handicapper, a stroke isn’t needed 1. Golf courses determine handicaps by starting with what they think is the hardest hole, which is the No. 1 handicap hole. Each hole is assigned a level of difficulty from one to 18, so the most difficult hole is the No. 1 handicap hole, the second most difficult is No. 2 and so on up to 18 2.
I hope this helps!

Gents, if you are in a position to financially assist with an added host item, please let Myself or Carl know. Last year we had a well received Oyster Bar and Lamb chops as appys. It would be great if we could continue this tradition.

Last Wednesday, June 28th, after clearing the 6th green and taking the lazy cart up the hill, my attention was drawn to an incoming shot to the 6th green. I quickly noticed the shot was tracking to the flagstick, and determined it was from the tee box. Ever so close as it grazed the hole finishing 6 feet past. Congratulations to Ross Reimer who tapped the 6 footer in for the Eagle 2. Wow!! I mean it was close!
