Summary of this week’s clinic: Bunker Play (Thank you, Marshall)
Set-up:
1. Take a wide stance with your feet dug into the sand
2. Get lower to the ground by bending your knees. This helps promote a more open club face during the swing.
3. Have an open club face. This will increase the bounce of the club, which is your friend in the bunker.
4. Lean slightly into your lead foot, so you should feel about 70 percent pressure in the lead foot.
5. The shaft of the club should not be pressed forward but instead be in line with your belly button
6. Have a weak grip, which helps keep the club face open during the swing.
7. Have very relaxed arms, as this will help hinge the club in the backswing and release the club properly in the down swing.
Bunker swing
1. Hinge the club going back
2. Release the club naturally coming through the ball. Don’t hold onto the angles.
3. The lower body should stay relatively still while the chest rotates
4. Keep the speed up during the down swing and follow through
