We are very fortunate to have a fantastic crew, we had several people come in on their weekend off, more than willing to jump in and help with our cleanup efforts, many thanks to all of the team for their huge effort this past weekend!
It appeared that something significantly worse occurred just north of our property, winds took down three large trees on the driveway two farms to the north as well as the internet/cell tower in this location, knocking our internet out for the day on Saturday. The abundance of water and/or the 88 flashes of lightning also knocked out our drinking water well with an electrical issue, all have since repaired and are up and running as usual.
The bunkers took the worst of the damage, every one of them washed out, some worse than others. We have put approximately half of them back together, our plan is to have them all complete by end of day Wednesday this week. All of the contaminated sand must be removed and new sand added in most bunkers, this along with shoveling the sand back up to the edges is a time consuming and very labour intensive task. If you were out this weekend, you would have noticed that our new bunkers at 1 and 17 did not wash, they were back in play immediately with only minor raking required. This is due to the upgraded drainage system that lets water get away faster with out contamination keeping bunker sand from getting clogged with fine soil particles, allowing the sand to play and look the way it should.
The cart path system also took a beating from the storm, our pathways are not asphalt, but rather recycled asphalt that we spray with a binding agent. In many cases they are very thin, maybe 1 inch thick, the shear volume of water simply washed them away. This week will be repairing many of these areas as best we can, the areas affected were 2, 13, 15, 16 and 17.
This was not what we wanted to be tasked with leading up to the Ladies Member/Guest event, we were planning to do detail work for the week to present the course beautifully for the event on Friday. Our focus will be on the rest of the clean up this week, along with completing our drainage and irrigation repair at 11 fairway, followed by preparing great conditions for our first invitational event at the end of the week.
