Golf Course Update

10/13/2023

Irrigation Blow Out
We are scheduled to blow out the irrigation system starting October 23rd through October 25th.  During your round you may encounter some excessive noise as we clear the irrigation lines.  Starting on Monday October 23rd the on course bathrooms will be closed for the remainder of the season.

Course Hardware
This week while we have more staff, we will slowly begin to bring in certain golf course accessories.  This will include benches, ball washers and hazard stakes.  The rest of the golf course hardware will remain out until the golf course closes for the season.

Projects & Activities Planned for This Fall
  • Topdressing all fine turf areas, greens, tees, approaches, and finish fairways
  • Continue mowing fescue and cleaning up debris (fescue clippings and all leaves)
  • Adding curbing and widening the path at seventeen tees
  • Squaring up the back of seven blue/gold tee and squaring up the white tee
  • Overseeding fescue areas that are too thin to minimize weed invasion
  • Dormant seeding concentrated fairway landing areas and high play tees (par 3’s)
  • Dormant seeding high traffic rough with Turf Type Tall Fescue which is more drought tolerant and can withstand traffic better than Kentucky Bluegrass
  • Re routing the path at fourteen tee so the blue/green tee can be expanded and squared up to match the remaining the tees on the golf course
  • Preventative winter fungicide application to all fine turf areas
  • Installing irrigation isolation valves that have failed
We are at the point in the season where the turf will not recover from the wear it receives – even our own wear that our maintenance traffic puts on the turf.  Any divots will not recover and grow back which is why it’s important to replace whenever possible and ball marks that are poorly repaired or unrepaired will not recover.  These voids will inevitably be left until next season, and they also give Poa a chance to invade.  For all the reasons listed above and that we must continue to prepare the golf course for winter and next year the last day of the season will be Sunday October 29th.  This date is later than most of the other private clubs in the Georgian Triangle.

Once again, our team has enjoyed preparing your golf course for the 2023 season.  Thank you for the ongoing support throughout the year and we look forward to seeing everyone back in the spring.

Respectfully Submitted,
Sean May, AAGS
Senior Assistant Superintendent
