Staff Update
Our students have now all gone back to school for the season, the first three weeks of September can be some of the most challenging times of the year, things have not really slowed down, and the golf calendar remains full, but we have 7 less people to get all of what we need to accomplished. We had a great crew this season and wish all of our student’s good luck as they return to their studies.
Bunkers
In preparation for an upcoming bunker renovation, we will be re constructing two test bunkers, one at 17 right greenside bunker and one at #1 greenside. We will be installing new drainage and new sand at both locations. We plan to install liner to these bunkers with the Better Billy Bunker method, this will help them drain much better as well as stop contamination of our white sand. Lastly, we will be installing irrigation on the steep banks surrounding these areas, using a variety of products from multiple manufacturers, again as a test to see which work best for our property.
We have a few items we will be tackling in the coming weeks; this includes:
- Continuing to top up bunkers with sand
- Mowing and cleaning up our fescue areas
- Topdressing all of our fine turf areas
- Continuing with underbrush at 4, 13,15,16,17
- Venting our green surfaces
- If time and funds permit, we will be enlarging the 7th white teeing ground
- Finishing pathways at #6 and re grading this area as well as #4
- Re – grading path at 16 tee
- Removing the pathway at 15 tee left side
Irrigation Update
We continue to have multiple repairs of our current system and continue to be challenged by insufficient isolation. A break on 17 two weeks ago had us isolate all the way from 15 to 18, closing our on-course bathroom for a couple of days, this is a large area to drain and re-pressurize once repaired, causing unnecessary strain on our old irrigation system. We have now installed additional isolation valves in some key locations throughout the property. This will not solve all of our challenges but will help to minimize the amount of down time on our system and avoid large areas having to be re pressurized post repairs moving forward.
Course Care
Please remember to fix your ball marks on greens, any unrepaired ball marks will give poa an opportunity to invade our greens. Poa germinates in the fall of the year, and is always looking for places to do so. Always push to the center of the ball mark, never pry up in the middle exposing bare soil.
Thank you for helping take care of the golf course!
