Golf Course Update

7/10/2022

In early June we experienced our first major rain event for the season, just under an inch of rain in an hour.  We experienced bunker wash outs throughout the property, our bunkers are not draining the way they once did.  We are now due for upgraded drainage and new sand, our sand has been contaminated by every significant rain event over the past 15 years.
We have been busy on course since our last meeting, some of what we’ve been up to include:

New range matts
Both the short range and the main range tee deck matts have now been installed.  Just in time for our Junior Camps to commence.  Most of the action will be on Matts for the Juniors,  These matts will have a huge impact in this location to save some grass for the late summer and fall seasons.  We have no plan in place at the moment to be on matts once per week, but this will likely begin this fall.  We will also use the matts after heavy rain events.

New Stone Patio areas
We have now completed the stone areas on our patio, this will be a huge improvement as members will be able to enjoy this area while not on just grass.  There will be no more moving tables and chairs in order to mow the grass, this is a huge logistical improvement for our staff.

Steps for access to 7 tee
The steps at 7 tee location are almost complete, we have a few stones left to complete this week as well as some grass seed around the edges.  Hopefully this will help to access all tees at number 7 for walkers.

We’ve also been busy with:
  • Adding sand to bunkers (ongoing)
  • Topdressing our back nine fairways
  • Venting our green surfaces (oxygen to the rootzone)
  • Aerified the short-range tee
  • Topdressing our approaches

We have a few items we will be tackling in the coming weeks; this includes:
  • Continuing to top up bunkers with sand
  • Adding Pine straw to areas throughout the property
  • Creating a parking area at the range tee
  • Planting a tree at 12 Green tee
  • Venting our green surfaces
  • Topdressing our teeing grounds
  • Finishing stairs at 7
  • Sand Topdressing our approaches
  • Surface treating cart paths at 1

Please refer to the illustration above, never pry up in the centre when repairing a pitch mark, always push to the centre starting at the back of the ball mark.

When repairing divots, if you create a large divot, please put it back stepping firmly on top to remove any air and fill in any gaps with divot mix.  If you have a small shallow divot please just use the divot mix provided.  Never use divot mix in our bluegrass areas.

Thank you for doing your part in making everyone’s game more enjoyable.

Respectfully,

Chad Vibert
