Golf Operations Update

7/7/2021

The most obvious scenario is when there are holes open in front of the group you are trying to pass. In this case, it would be acceptable to waive a group through that was playing faster. The best time to waive up would be on a par 3.  Your group tees off, and right about now, the players behind you should be finishing up on the previous green. If you are in carts, you can wait for them to approach and invite them to play through. If you are walking, it is okay to head for the green and mark your ball, perhaps even taking a putt or two, or find a safe position and then wave them through. Another good time to play though would be when a group in front might be searching for a lost ball on a par 4 or par 5. Once again, just ensure that you find a safe place when the other group is hitting their shots.

With that scenario, I have assumed that the course is not that busy and letting a group through would not cause too much disruption. If, however we start to see big gaps on the busier days, this is a bigger issue with pace of play. Playing through on busier days is a lot more challenging. For example, if there is a twosome, or a single playing behind solid foursomes, this would not be a time to play through. If all the foursomes are playing at a good pace and keeping up with the group in front of them, there would be no need to let groups pace. This will only cause more disruption and could slow things down. If one foursome were to let the twosome/single pass, they would then expect the next group in front of them to do the same. If you are a twosome on a busy day, if may feel as though your round is taking longer, however it is only because you do not have two other players hitting shots in the group. I would recommend walking a little slower to your golf ball as opposed to rushing up and waiting. If you have any questions about the etiquette in these situations, please feel free to speak with me and I can provide more information.

Another sign that things are getting back to normal is the return of some events at the Club. At this point in the season, we have been able to proceed with our weekly leagues and match play. In the second half of July, we have some events that are open for registration. The first is the Senior Club Championship on July 22nd. The Senior Club Championship is open to all male members 55 years of age and over, and all female members aged 50 and over. The event is for players of all skill levels as we have both gross and net competitions within each flight. To sign up for the event, please click on the following link 2021 SENIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP REGISTRATION LINK.

One week later, we have our Men’s Member/Member on July 28th & 29th. Pierre referenced this event in his post this week as well. The format lends itself to some great competition and a lot of fun! The first day of the event, pairs will compete in two 9-hole matches within their flight starting at 1pm. There will be an optional lunch available before teeing off. The pro shop will also be accepting pari-mutual bets before the players tee off for overall win, place, and show. Following play on day one, there will also be an optional dinner available to all participants.

On day two, pairs will compete in one more 9-hole match within their flight starting at 1pm. Like day one, there will be an optional lunch available before play. Once the matches have been completed, the first-place team in each flight will participate in a shootout to determine the overall winner. There will be a dinner provided to all players following the playoff. Those interested in participating can click on the link provided to register MEN'S MEMBER/MEMBER REGISTRATION LINK. You can sign up as a pair or single. The pro shop will pair up any singles to create a team. If you have any other questions regarding this event, please speak with Mark in the pro shop.

These two events, along with the Divorce Open on July 25th will provide some great opportunities for members both new and old to connect with each other while enjoying some friendly competition. Stay tuned for more events in the month of August and September.
