Golf Operations Update - Carl Penfold

5/11/2021

There was a lot of useful information within this presentation with some key takeaways for our members. The Max Score for Handicap Purposes was explained which changed to Net Double Bogey. This new method of equitable stroke control ensures bad holes do not impact a player’s handicap too severely. For our members that are not sure how to calculate this, it is recommended that you enter your scores hole-by-hole. By entering scores in this manner, the system will do all of the calculations for you so you do not have to worry.

The other point that I felt was important for our members to remember was the Playing Conditions Calculation (PCC). This change to the handicap system can adjust your score based on the playing conditions for the day. Once again, our members do not have to do anything to calculate this, the system will do it automatically. What is important to remember, scores must be posted before midnight on the day the round was played to be used in this calculation.
Therefore, a best practice is to ensure your scores are posted immediately following the completion of your round. We will not have the handicap computer set up in the Golf Shop this season due to covid, therefore you will be posting scores on your computer at home or using the mobile app. If you require assistance with setting up your desktop or device for score posting, please ask one of the golf professionals.

Next Monday, May 17th at 7:00pm, Golf Ontario will be hosting the Rules of Golf Seminar via ZOOM. In my experience, there is typically a lot more interest in joining this session. This really is a must attend for our members that participate in any form of competition at the Club, including weekly league play, match play and Club Championship. The Q&A portion is generally a lot more active, and entertaining, as members relive some of their interesting “moments” on the golf course and look to understand how the rules should be applied. The ZOOM link to join the session will be emailed to all members next Monday.

Look forward to seeing you all next week for another informative night!
