GM Report

9/8/2021

A member email with detailed plans is forthcoming and the information can also be found on the website under our Covid header and on the member central page of the website.
Over the past two summers it has been abundantly clear that members prefer to remain outdoors whenever possible. We expect this to continue into the fall. However, as fall storms and cooler temperatures arrive, we know the movement indoors will begin, even unexpectedly.
If we do not already have proof of your fully vaccinated status and if you do not have proof on hand, we will be required to not allow your access into the dining room.
To assist in our preparations for September 22nd, if you have any intentions to use the dining room this fall, please forward your proof of full vaccinations to me at [email protected] as soon as possible.
Management and the Board are aware of decisions at some other Clubs in the GTA, to implement mandatory vaccination policies this fall. Most of these clubs have busy indoor winter schedules.
After considerable research and discussion and given our facility closure at the end of October, the decision has been made to continue with the protocols that have been successful over the past 18 months until closure.
This will provide us time to consider and review the results of these policies before making our decisions for the 2022 season.
Scholarship Program and Year-end Gratuities

As summer winds down and staff begin to leave us to pursue their studies, we also finalize our staff scholarship program and year-end gratuities program for our seasonal staff.

The scholarship program was introduced a few years ago in memory of two of Mad River’s long-time staff members Roy Emerton and Tom Sandell. This initiative was brought forward to celebrate both Roy and Tom’s legacy at the club. The program is an annual education scholarship to assist two successful candidates in fulfilling their aspirations.
The scholarships are awarded to one staff member of the grounds department in memory of Roy and one staff member from either golf or f&b in memory of Tom. The criteria is based on overall job performance of the candidates along with written submissions. The recipients will be announced in October.
The year-end staff gratuities program is a long-standing program to reward our non-management and summer seasonal staff.  The initiative is funded through the membership and 100% of these gratuities are distributed to staff. The department managers distribute the gratuities based on job performance and number of hours worked.

The COVID pandemic has clearly created significantly higher stress and anxiety levels in all of us this year and in particular for the front-line seasonal staff. We also want to acknowledge the staff that decided to work despite this decision compromising their CERB benefits.
