Introduction of "The MAD MILE"

8/22/2020

What is it?

For those that may not have heard, the Mad Mile is an idea of Brian’s that highlights the difficult finishing stretch (#15-#18) at Mad River. The overall distance is just over or under one mile depending on the tees you play from.

From any tees we all know what a difficult stretch it is and, in most instances, “it will make or break your round!”.

Discussions surrounding how you faired on the Mad Mile is sure to be a key talking point each and every round.

We expect this will live on in the Clubs history and will be something to celebrate as we wind down 2020.

Internally we will market this initially through Ladies days, Mens days and other Club events and will offer a pint or beverage of choice for the most interesting stories we hear each week. These stories and results will be posted on the website and are sure to provide interesting reading!

One story I’ve already heard relates to the Club Championship, where one un-named member stood on the 15th tee at 1 over par for the day. What happened to this great round, well he proceeded to play the Mad Mile in 8 over par! How does that happen, well for those of us that have played the Mad Mile, actually quite easily! We do expect some stories of great finishes as well.

We will be installing a plaque on the 15th tee to commemorate the launch. You’ll see the holes highlighted on the scorecards and Brian has Mad Mile caps for sale. In 2021, there will be a number of new initiatives and merchandise that will allow you to proudly fly your brand and promote both the Mad Mile and Mad River.

Externally, we expect many opportunities to promote the Club through use of the Mad Mile and expect it to become a talking point for all that come to play Mad River.

We hope you enjoy this new initiative and send in your stories!

Given how far we’ve come, we’ve decided to launch the Mad Mile initiative on September 4th. The plaque will go up on the 15th tee, caps will be priced and displayed and weekly prize draws will be made for interesting Mad Mile stories and performances.

We will also award weekly prizes for Mad Mile performances during Ladies and Mensday for the remainder of the summer.

For those that may have missed earlier communications about the Mad Mile, this is an idea brought forward by Brian French. Depending on the tees you play, the length from #15 - #18 is approximately a mile in length and as Brian notes, this stretch of holes are “Magnificently Maddening” as they will undoubtably “Make or Break” your round every day!

Beginning on September 4th let the pro shop staff know when you have a memorable performance over this demanding stretch of hole!

Enjoy,
