Welcome back everyone. Opening Day and the Annual General Meeting always signals the start of another exciting season at Mad River.
At the Annual General Meeting, three new directors were elected- Katie Macnee, Doug Painter, and Brian Swales, all of whom will join an active and engaged Board who have volunteered their time in order to ensure the continued success of Mad River. As reported at the AGM, the club is in a good place with no debt and a substantial Capital Preservation Fund. Nonetheless, challenges remain as our infrastructure ages and competitive pressures grow. To that end, your Board will be attending a Long Range Planning meeting on June 22nd. The meeting will be facilitated by our consultants, Global Golf Advisors, and will address our long term financial goals and how best to achieve them.
The "Drive for 35" has been an unqualified success with 25 new members and their families having joined, as of this writing. This is the largest number of new members and associates to join the club in several years. I would ask that we all make a special effort to ensure that our new members feel at home and comfortable at the club and enjoy the benefits of the club environment, values, and friendships.
Finally, the role of President of Mad River has been made substantially easier because of the contribution made by outgoing President Bob Astley. The de facto General Manager in his first year, Bob led the recruitment of Gary Ward, introduced a new governance model, and, along with Gary, implemented professional policies and procedures to Mad River. We all owe Bob a debt of gratitude for his leadership, wisdom and inspiration. Please don't hesitate to express yours to Bob when you see him next.
Tony Viner,
Club President
