Weather patterns continue to be unusually wet and cool, but this certainly has not dampened our “Drive for 35” membership program.
Between confirmed new members, prospects Sandy is working with and leads that continue to come in we expect to achieve our target of 35 new members this summer. Leads from you are still our greatest source of prospects, so thank you for continuing to forward these to Sandy.
Elimination of Single use water bottles and reducing our environmental footprint
More and more clubs across the globe are looking at ways and means to improve their environmental protocols. Management and the board agree the elimination of single use water bottles is an important step in this process.
In May, the board approved a recommendation from management to add an additional filtered water system for the clubhouse that will assist us to achieve this objective. This is a much smaller system than you see outside and will be located beside the coffee and tea stations.
This new system will offer room temperature, cold or carbonated water will allow us to move away from selling single use water bottles at Mad River in 2020.
The reason we felt the carbonated option was important was twofold;
- It eliminates the need for us to carry and sell single use carbonated water bottles, while still offering the option.
- Lifestyle choices are seeing more use of products that can be added to your water to add flavour, increase energy, replace electrolytes and boost your immune system to enhance your performance. These are often enjoyed in both regular and carbonated form.
The system should be on-site and installed in early July. An important component of this initiative will be offering for sale Mad River reusable containers which will also assist with the reduction of single use plastic “to go” cups.
As the market moves away from plastics, golf and f&b suppliers will continue to expand their re-usable options available for sale and we will continue to explore ways to reduce our environmental impact.
Vision 54
Last weekend we had amazing opportunity to welcome Pia Nilson and Lynn Marriot to Mad River for a world class coaching session. They brought a wealth of knowledge and experience and focused the session on the most under practiced component of the game, the human skills, in a manner that was engaging and entertaining.
Their insight into the challenges faced by the games greatest players was not only interesting but inspiring. Pia was Annika Sorenstam’s coach for her entire career and Mike Weir has recently begun to work with them. Mike was lamenting about the 10-year “Rabbit hole” of swing mechanics and technical overload he’s been in. They are working with him on the same skills they brought to our weekend sessions.
The sessions provided a path to improved golf with reduced frustration and more enjoyment…..I think we’d all agree that’s a desirable outcome!
The day was absolutely superb, the members thoroughly enjoyed both sessions and I believe we’ve confirmed the membership do have an appetite for bringing in world class coaching.
