Jon Collins, Associate Director Events and Partnerships with Parkinson Canada played in the tournament and made note that our event is one of the top-three community fundraising events in support of Parkinson Canada this year. He also shared that the $50,000 raised is equivalent to the funding required for one Parkinson Canada Research Program Pilot Project Grant. These grants provide ‘seed funding’ for novel research ideas that may not otherwise get started without this important first step in allowing for testing of hypothesis, collection of data, and validation of results to then apply for greater pools of funds from other research bodies.
Parkinson’s affects more than 100,000 Canadians with an estimated 40,000 Canadians living with Parkinson’s. Through the years, many of our members have battled Parkinson’s and we are proud to contribute to this important cause.
