VISION54 - Be A Player

3/26/2019

UPDATE: We’ve confirmed that on Saturday June 15th, the founders of the VISION54 School, Lyn Marriot and Pia Nilson will be visiting Mad River for two half-day sessions!  Space will be limited to 15 participants for each session.  The cost of this session will be $450/player and will include a copy of they’re best selling book, Be A Player.

If you are not yet familiar with Lyn and Pia, they have authored four best selling books including my all time favourite, Be A Player.  They are regulars on the Golf Channel and as you’ll read below, have coached numerous Tour players to victory, including 9 major winners and four #1 ranked players.  1,000's of golfers of all levels have attended their VISION54 School in Scottsdale where their formula is a proven success.

Stay tuned for more to come on this exciting opportunity for Mad River members!
Last month I had the opportunity to attend coach training at the VISION54 School in Scottsdale, run by two of the game’s leading coaches, Lyn Marriot and Pia Nilson.  If you have read any of their books, you will know that “the origin of VISION54 emanates from a core belief in possibilities, and by embracing the notion that every individual has unlimited and unique potential.”

The intention of this trip to their school was to gain an understanding of all the necessary components to help support each player to become a better player of the game, regardless of skill level.  There are numerous elements that influence performance including physical, technical, mental, emotional, social, and spirit of the game.  When broken down, you quickly realize that the golf swing is just one element of an integrated approach to creating a complete golfer.

While in Scottsdale, I had the opportunity to play golf with a gentleman by the name of Rudy Duran.  If you are unfamiliar with the name, he was Tiger’s coach from the age of 4 to 12 and the man who created “Tiger Par”.  Rudy is a coach at VISION54 and his approach could be the simplest I have ever heard.  When I asked Rudy how he makes players better, he simply said “Have them hit more of their good shots.”  I laughed, but he wasn’t kidding, and he is 100% correct.

If you have worked with me in the past, you may have heard me say that your swing is like a snowflake.  It is yours and there is no other swing that is the same.  This is at the core of the VISION54 philosophy.  As the quote above says, “every individual has unlimited and unique potential.” Knowing what works for you and what doesn’t work for you is a journey through self-discovery.  Your secret to playing better could be in your grip pressure, or your stability on your left foot through impact, or counting rhythmically throughout your swing, or something completely different.  By going through specific drills for skills to see what works for you, you will soon discover how you play your best golf and harness it!

There will be a few new programs to look forward to this year, with one being on-course sessions using the VISION54 philosophies.  This integrated approach has been proven to work with some of the greatest players in the game and I am excited to bring it to Mad River this year to help each one of you become better players.  My goal this year is simple: To see more smiling golfers coming off the 18th hole.
